Free Reading Level Test for Kids - 5-Question Quiz

Quick answer: This 5-question test maps your child's current reading skill to one of five stages - pre-reader, early reader, developing reader, fluent reader, or advanced reader. Each result includes a next step. No signup, no email, no data stored.

How this test works

Each question describes a real-world reading milestone - CVC words, short sentences, early chapter books, longer chapter books, and complex middle-grade novels. You pick “yes”, “sometimes”, or “no” based on what you've seen at home. Book complexity is one of the most-validated proxies for reading skill (Lexile, Guided Reading, Fountas & Pinnell all use it). The result is a stage label and a clear next step, not a clinical diagnosis.
